Zene Music Makers is directed by Perth musician Penelope Colgan, a leading Western Australian Arts Educator who has taught babies from Pre-Kindy to tertiary level, and also worked with mini musicians - sharing musical experiences with babies/toddlers and their families.

Penelope was the Lead Teaching Artist for WASO’s Crescendo Music Education program, where she wrote the pilot curriculum and delivered lessons in their inaugural year, teaching students in this impactful ‘music for social change’ initiative in the Kwinana area.

She has worked across Catholic, Independent and Government sectors, held Director of Music positions at both Iona Presentation College and Corpus Christi College, and is sought after as an ensemble director, choral conductor, examiner, and adjudicator. In addition to classroom and ensemble settings, she is also a skilled voice and flute teacher. On a casual basis, she provides support to the Education and Community Engagement team at West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

Penelope is a highly qualified and experienced educator with a firm belief that every person should experience beautiful music from birth, in every classroom, and at every age! She is committed to providing music-making experiences for young people and their families in Western Australia.

Teaching music on Woodjak Boodjar is an honour and a privliage. Penelope acknowledges this and strives to include elements of Noongar language and culture in every lesson, to share the stories and language of our First Nation people.

Book a Zene Music Makers program and have her visit your school with her Mary Poppins-style bag filled with music-making delights and surprises. Alternatively, enrol your child in a group music class for kids, held in Myaree WA for special music and a time for connection with your mini musician.
